If you think you might be at risk of hepatitis C, a simple blood test will tell you.
You can have the blood test at a GP surgery, a hospital clinic, a sexual health clinic or most often in Tayside at addiction or harm reduction services.
Depending on where you go for testing, you may be offered a traditional blood test or a Dried Blood Spot Test (DBST). A DBST involves pricking your finger and spotting the blood onto a special piece of card that is sent to the laboratory to be tested.
If you have ever been infected with hepatitis C, your body will have antibodies that can be picked up on a test, but we need to do further tests in the laboratory called a PCR test to see if you have a chronic infection and require treatment.
