HIV is a long-term condition that can have an impact on many areas of your life from your health to your employment. Waverley Care has developed a range of information that can help navigate this.
Treatment
Although there is no cure for HIV, it is completely treatable and people living with the infection can stay well and lead healthy lives. People who are on treatment and have an undetectable viral load cannot pass the virus on to others. Undetectable equals Untransmissible (U=U). If you or your sexual partner have HIV and an undetectable viral load, then it will not be passed on.
It’s important to remember:
- Successful HIV treatment means you can expect to live as long as anyone else
- This treatment can be as simple as taking one or two pills a day
- Once your treatment is working properly, you may only have to see a doctor once or twice a year
- You can still have a great sex life– either with condoms, or even without once your treatment is working properly
- People living with HIV can have children
