What Should They Know? – Upper Primary
By the time children reach upper primary school it’s a good idea for them to have discussed:
•Conception (how a baby is made)
•Respecting themselves and others
•Puberty and menstruation
•Different kinds of relationships, including friendships, romantic relationships, gay and lesbian relationships
•Gender identity, expression and diversity
•Avoiding things they don’t want to do and staying safe in both the online and the offline world
•Who to speak to if they need help or support
•Respecting individuality
•Expressing & dealing with feelings & emotions
•Basic information around sexually transmitted infections including HIV
•Gender stereotypes and the impact of media messages
