Exposure & Impact Considerations

You may have considered some of the following:

Magazines/Advertising – Belief that self-worth is based on image, gender stereotypes, narrow representation of bodies, airbrushing, low self-esteem due to comparing, desire to conform, youth as sexy, lack of diversity

Porn – Pressure to have sex or particular types of sexual activity, narrow gender stereotypes, confusion around consent and communication, lack of visible contraception used, lack of intimacy in sexual relationships, body image (size, shape and body hair)

Social Media – Bullying, grooming, sexual behaviour online and in real life, sending explicit images, self-esteem based on “likes”, pressure to be “constantly available”, coercion and pressure online, exposure to explicit content, influence and attitude formation around extreme views such as racism, homophobia or misogyny.
